October 2012 - I had the privilege to speak to Mrs. Katie Dyer’s class at Drake Middle School in Auburn, Alabama. Mrs. Dyer read Carolina Gold to the class as part of their reading program. I was excited beyond words that they liked Carolina Gold. My sincere thanks go to Mrs. Dyer for selecting Carolina Gold and for allowing me to meet her amazing class.
The young people in her class were bright and energetic. They asked great questions, and you could tell by their questions and comments they had absorbed the story, the characters, and the overall theme of the adventure.
Each student was asked to write a review of the story. Here is one of my favorites. In case you can't read the picture:
"I thought the book Carolina Gold was an awesome, action-packed, suspenseful, thrilling adventure and funny. My favorite characters were Chris and Jake because Chris is a boy genius, and Jake is a super strong guy and reminds me of Hulk. My least favorite character was Mr. Ray because he is a rotten good for nothing rat. I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys awesomeness."
